- Australian politician, Teacher. James Garfield Bayley (26 March 1882 – 14 January 1968) was an Australian politician. Born in Franklin, Tasmania, he moved to Queensland as a child. He was educated at Brisbane Grammar School and at Stanford University in the United States. He returned to Australia as a teacher and eventually a school principal. In 1917, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Nationalist member for Oxley. He held the seat until his defeat in 1931. Born 03/26/1882 in Franklin, Tasmania.
