Colonel Arthur Hale Woods (January 29, 1870-May 12, 1942) was an American educator, journalist, military and law enforcement officer. One of the most prominent police reformers during the early 20th century, he served as deputy police commissioner of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) from 1907 to 1909 and later became NYPD police commissioner in 1914.
