- Former captain of the New Zealand national rugby union team. Sir Wilson James Whineray, KNZM, OBE (born 10 July 1935) is a former captain of the All Blacks, New Zealand's national rugby union team. He played for the All Blacks between 1957 and 1965. He was the team's longest serving captain, and according to some, its greatest. Whineray was named New Zealand Sportsperson of the Year in 1965.
